Profile:
Over 10 years in leadership roles in Human Resources in one of the worlds biggest financial services companies based in Edinburgh, London and Amsterdam. Joining RBS from NatWest back in 1998 was a timely move coming as he did 18 months before RBS successfully acquired NatWest. In his 10 years he has led the creation of an award-winning HR Shared Services function, one of the most innovative in the world; led the acquisition and integration of NatWest from a people-management perspective, again winning external awards; and most recently led the acquisition of ABN AMRO with their partners from Fortis and Santander. 2008 year has been an incredible year of learning (both good and bad) and 2009 will bring many new challenges... He joined the investment banking division of RBS in the summer of 09.
During his RBS time, he has also led the due diligence in (the bank of) China and completed the acquisitions of a number of other companies such as Churchill Insurance & First Active. For two years to July 2007, he was also HR Director for RBS Wealth Manegement division, including a board position on Coutts &Co, RBS' well-known private bank.
Interest:
Outside RBS he retains an active interest in social matters through being a Trustee of the RBS Chairman's Charity, a former trustee of the Coutts and Co Charitable Trust & an HR Advisor to the Prince's Trust. He is a member of the National Trust, The National Galleries of Scotland, Historic Scotland and a number of smaller charitable interests.
Professionally, he has written two books with Peter Reilly of the Institute of Employment Studies and published by Gower (gowerpub.com). The 3rd one on business change in a global environment (needless to say drawing hugely on the ABN AMRO experience!) is on its way.
